José Maria Cela

José Cela holds a Ph.D of Telecommunication Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC). He is currently working as the director of the Computer Applications in Science & Engineering (CASE) department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – National Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), and as a Associate Professor at UPC. He has participated in over 40 R&D projects and has published over 120 articles in international journals and conferences. His research focuses on the parallelization and optimization of numerical simulations, mainly in the field of computational mechanics. He is responsible for the joint research center REPSOL-BSC (RBRC), where simulations are developed in the areas of seismic imaging, reservoir simulation, chemical reactors, and various computational mechanics problems. He is also responsible for the macro-research project on renewable energies with Iberdrola and several other projects, including in the field of fusion energy.
